A Word of Welcome from the Secretary General
It might be a bit simplistic to start like this, but a mere “welcome” is the most genuine, warm and spontaneous way in which I could receive you. To all the potential delegates, chairs, guests and staff: Welcome and Thank You. Welcome in the EuroMUN network, and Thank You for your interest.
500 delegates, 380 days of planning, 40 Junior staffers, 30+ nationalities, 11 years of experience, 7 secretariat members, 4 days, all this within a conference of academic excellence: The European Model United Nations 2018. Over the past decade, EuroMUN has developed to be one of the most international and successful conferences in Europe. In the specific concern of this 2018 edition, there will be a focus on innovation. Many core elements that characterize EuroMUN and make much of its identity will be kept, although some innovation will be brought about. For the first time, EuroMUN will have a Spanish and French speaking committee, and a negotiation-based, consensus-building “Group of 20”. Academic excellence is a prominent aspect of the conference and will be mirrored in the choices of committees, topics, study guides, selection of chairs and delegates. We will enhance cooperation with the Dutch Public Authority and stand by the aims of eco-sustainability and gender equality. You can judge yourself, but to me, this is an opportunity that should not be missed!
The European Model United Nations, is hosted by the United Nations Student Association (UNSA Maastricht), to which we own a big Thank You. They have fully supported the EuroMUN project and have made possible the progress so far. The UNSA board aims to promote education and mutual understanding among the people by conveying the fundamentals of international relations and a form of practicing this is through the promotion of Model United Nation (MUN), which gives many young minds the possibility to prepare for their future careers, as well as debate pressing topics and connect with others from all over the world, building long-lasting friendships. Again, a thank you to UNSA for having been the roots that have allowed EuroMUN to flourish.
With this, I – together with the EuroMUN Secretariat – am incredibly proud to warmly invite you to be part of this bigger something, between the 10th and 13th of May 2018; Come to Maastricht, where the whole of Europe meets, to enjoy an academically demanding conference and a remarkable social and cultural experience. Come to Maastricht for “Shaping the Future from the Heart of Europe”.
Albert Einstein once said that we cannot solve the problem with the same thinking that we used when we created it. In fact, there is a need of constant change of minds, and your minds will soon be needed. Why not start from here? Participate to EuroMUN, stop being a spectator and start being the star. Stop thinking that you will be a leader of tomorrow, and start leading today. How wonderful is it that nobody needs to wait a single moment before starting to improve the world? You deserve to be part of this. Be part of the EuroMUN community and start learning how to laugh at the odds and do things so well that challenges will tremble to present themselves. Join us for the 11th edition of the European Model United Nations, in Maastricht (NL), between the 10th and 13th of May 2018.
